GMP Joins Brands Like Apple, Netflix and Square in Fast Company’s Annual Issue
20 February 2018
New York – Fast Company today announced its annual Most Innovative Companies (MIC) for 2018, honoring leading enterprises and rising newcomers that exemplify the best in business and innovation. As part of their rankings, they release the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in 36 separate categories from artificial intelligence to wellness. Green Mountain Power (GMP) was ranked #1 among the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies for Energy for 2018. The Colchester-based energy company was ranked #8 on the 2017 list.
“This year’s MIC list is an inspiring and insightful window into how many companies have embraced innovation and are working to make meaningful change,” said Fast Company deputy editor David Lidsky, who oversaw the issue with senior editor Amy Farley. More than three dozen Fast Company editors, reporters, and contributors surveyed thousands of companies—many of which were identified by a new MIC submission process—to create these lists.
Green Mountain Power CEO Mary Powell said she and other GMP employees are proud to be among the distinguished innovators recognized by Fast Company in 2018.
“Our mission focuses on a new way of doing business that helps people use less energy and save money, which is really about improving lives and transforming communities. If you look at the list of other companies Fast Company selected, you see that their goals are similar—exploring ideas and projects that excite people and enhance the way they live. That’s what drives most innovation.”
Most Innovative Companies is Fast Company’s signature franchise and one of its most highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. It provides both a snapshot and a road map for the future of innovation across the most dynamic sectors of the economy.
“Congratulations to Green Mountain Power on its selection as #1 among the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies for Energy for 2018,” said Michael Schirling, Vermont’s Secretary of Commerce and Community Development. “This recognition highlights GMP’s ongoing dedication to energy innovation, and it is emblematic of the strength of all Vermont companies and further illuminates Vermont’s 200+ year history of entrepreneurship and creativity.”
Powell agreed these rankings are validation of the important work being done here in Vermont to transform the way we generate and use energy, and GMP will continue to innovate to deliver the most comprehensive and leading-edge products and services to customers now and into the future.
Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies issue (March-April 2018) is now available online at www.fastcompany.com/MIC, as well as in app form via iTunes and on newsstands beginning February 27.
