Vermont Writers’ Prize
Celebrating Writers in Vermont
Have you ever thought about what makes Vermont great and want to write about it? The Vermont Writers Prize, sponsored by Green Mountain Power and Vermont Magazine, is a statewide contest honoring the legacy and passion of Vermont author Ralph Nading Hill, Jr. This contest gives Vermont writers, amateur and professional, the opportunity to showcase their literary abilities in one of the most prestigious writing competitions in the region.
The contest is open to all Vermont residents and may be amateur or professional writers. Your piece may be an essay, a short story, a play, or a poem. It must however be one central topic – Vermont. Whether it is its people, its places, its vast history or its values, the choice is yours. Entries must be unpublished and 1,500 words or less. Writers may submit only one entry per year.
All entries must be submitted by November 1 using the submit button below. For questions about the submission process, please call 802-655-8418. The winner will be selected by an independent panel of judges. The author will receive a cash prize of $1,500, and have the honor of seeing his or her piece published in Vermont Magazine.
Employees of Vermont Magazine or Green Mountain Power and previous winners not eligible.
