Green Mountain Power Named to Fast Company’s 2024 Most Innovative Companies in the World
GMP joins companies Open AI, Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment, and the National Women’s Soccer League, and is honored in the Energy sector for groundbreaking resiliency work benefitting all GMP customers
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Fast Company announced today that Green Mountain Power (GMP) is one of the Most Innovative Companies in the World for 2024, joining Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment, the National Women’s Soccer League, and Open AI on the prestigious list. Fast Company introduced the list this morning, saying “The challenges facing business and the planet are immense, but the process of selecting these winners gave us optimism.”
GMP is second on the list of ten companies honored in the Energy category, with the magazine noting GMP’s groundbreaking work to boost resiliency and equity for all customers.
“This team at GMP is driven to take on the challenges of our time and to revolutionize the energy system to ensure a stronger, more affordable Vermont. These types of projects are more important than ever, and we are honored that Vermont’s work is being recognized among many other inspiring innovative companies,” said GMP president and CEO Mari McClure.
Fast Company selected GMP for its work to expand energy storage to all customers, build an all-electric neighborhood in South Burlington, and strengthen the grid in the face of climate change, saying of GMP that “the aim is to create an energy system by 2030 in which customers—even the most rural ones—experience zero outages, all while dramatically reducing the costs associated with grid resilience and storm repair.”
“It’s great to see Fast Company is honoring GMP for all their groundbreaking work that is helping build a stronger and more cost-effective Vermont,” said Vermont Business Roundtable president Seth Bowden. “GMP is not only an energy leader, but also a leader in how businesses can innovate and provide solutions that help customers.”
“Vermont has an entrepreneurial spirit, and it is not surprising that GMP’s innovative and inclusive culture is being recognized for delivering groundbreaking results for customers. Congratulations to GMP’s team, who is supporting our work to expand technical aviation skills for women and grow the innovation workforce in Vermont,” said Beth White, Founder and Director of Habitat for Aviation, a nonprofit that is preparing the next generation of airplane mechanics, pilots, and avionics specialists for electric and conventional aircraft.
GMP’s home battery programs help customers stay powered up, and all other customers benefit through the savings achieved, because everyone agrees to share stored energy during peak energy use times. This lowers costs and carbon for all.
GMP customer Robin Timko just got a battery installed. “I was so relieved to have battery backup, which made sure I did not experience any interruption from a recent power outage. It was seamless and not only was I safe, I also like knowing it is serving others on the grid and helping everyone,” Timko said.
This is the sixth time GMP has been named to Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies list. Fast Company said of the winners in the Energy category that, “Climate change isn’t just a threat multiplier, it’s arguably the world’s biggest threat, and companies and investors are fighting back with a barrage of innovation. This year’s most innovative energy companies demonstrate the world’s multipronged response to the crisis.”
