GMP Reminds People to Stay Away from Downed Lines
28 October 2017
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power has made extensive preparations for the severe winds predicted for late Sunday. Gusts up to 65 miles per hour are expected to knock down trees and branches across the state.
“Winds this strong cause a lot of damage to trees and power lines, and GMP crews are ready to restore power quickly and safely,” said Dorothy Schnure, Green Mountain Power spokesperson. “In addition to our dedicated GMP crews, we have arranged for additional contract crews to help us restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”
The strongest winds are expected late Sunday into Monday. The storm could also bring rainfall up to three inches, so Green Mountain Power has prepared for rising water by drawing down ponds behind hydro facilities.
“Keeping the public safe while we restore power is our top priority, and we remind people to stay away from all downed lines or quickly moving water and to keep children and pets far away,” said Schnure.
