COLCHESTER, Vt. – Just a week after strong hurricane force winds impacted Vermont in one of the most challenging storms to hit the state, Green Mountain Power is once again preparing for the possibility of scattered outages from a much more moderate wind storm forecasted to start Sunday morning and extend through Monday.
Forecasters say this new wind storm will have gusts up to 45 MPH, far lower than the nearly 80 MPH winds seen from the first wind storm, but it still has the potential to blow branches onto power lines, causing scattered outages, especially given the damage from the first storm that weakened trees and left debris. Green Mountain Power lineworkers are prepared to restore outages if they occur. Also, external crews are ready to help.
“Our team will respond as quickly and safely as we can if this new wind storm causes damage bringing down trees and branches already weakened from the first powerful storm,” said Kristin Carlson, GMP VP of Strategic & External Affairs. “The timing is difficult as it comes on the heels of one of the toughest storms to hit Vermont and our teams having restored power to all impacted on Friday. We would like to extend our appreciation to customers in advance for their patience and understanding if this new storm causes any scattered outages.”
GMP urges the public to stay safe and clear from all downed lines if there is a new round of damage from this storm. Contact GMP and emergency personnel if you experience an outage or encounter downed lines.
