COLCHESTER, Vt. – With preparations starting last Thursday, Green Mountain Power crews have been working non-stop after strong wind and rains pummeled Vermont Sunday night and early Monday morning, and they have now restored power to all customers impacted by the storm, a total of 124,330 homes and businesses as of 7:30 p.m. This wind storm impacted nearly every region of the state, making it one of the biggest in recent history.
“We are so thankful to our customers who showed kindness in helping neighbors and patience as crews worked to repair all the damage,” said Kristin Carlson, VP of Strategic & External Affairs. “We also want to acknowledge the state’s efforts and those of other utilities for great coordination to respond to this emergency situation and help make repairs as quickly and safely as possible.”
GMP has offered to help other Vermont utilities as they work through their final restorations and will be assisting Stowe Electric and Vermont Electric Co-op starting tomorrow.
“This storm brought incredibly tough conditions and damage, some of the worst I’ve ever seen. But this is what we do and restoring power to our customers is our highest priority,” said Jimmy Cushing, who has worked at GMP for 25 years and is veteran chief lineworker.
With so much damage, Vermonters are urged to remain vigilant as damaged trees and limbs may continue to cause outages over the next several days and weeks. To report an outage, call 888-835-4672.
