GMP Urging Safety This Evening as Halloween Storm Forecasted to Bring Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds
National Weather Service Issues Flood Watch and Wind Advisory With Gusts Up To 55MPH This Evening Into Friday
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is urging safety as forecasters call for an intensifying storm just as families may head out to trick-or-treat for Halloween. As much as three inches of rain is predicted this evening through Friday, and winds could reach 55MPH according to meteorologists, who say scattered outages are possible. GMP will respond as quickly and safely as possible.
“The forecasted strong winds and heavy rain on top of recent rainstorms are a concern. Saturated ground could make it easier for trees to topple and take down lines, ” said Mike Burke, GMP’s Chief Field Operations Executive. GMP has brought in crews from out of state to be available to assist GMP crews. “Anyone outside this evening – crews or trick-or-treaters – needs to be alert about changing weather conditions and the possibility of flying debris.”
GMP is urging safety, and for customers to be prepared. Stay alert, stay away from all downed lines or trees, and don’t ever drive over water covered roads. Customers can call 888-835-4672 to report outages, and should call 911 for a medical emergency.
