Crews are Responding to Thousands of Outages Across the State
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) line crews are out in force repairing damage from today’s summer thunderstorms. Thousands have lost power as lightening took down trees and power lines. There are approximately 2,400 still without power as of 5:30 p.m. GMP encourages everyone to stay safe, as there could be more storms and the potential for additional outages this evening. There is a new, less severe, cluster of storms working its way into Vermont from New York that could cause damage, potentially in multiple areas in the state.
“Our team is working as safely and efficiently as we can to repair damage and restore power,” said Dotty Schnure, GMP Spokesperson. “We urge the public to be safe, never come into contact with down lines and report outages and damage to us right away.”
Crews are out in many Vermont counties restoring power in more than 30 towns across the state. Work will continue into night, and into Sunday evening for the areas hardest hit, such as remote sections of Montpelier.
