Outages Possible, GMP Urging Customers to Stay Alert to Changing Conditions
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Forecasters are calling for a storm to bring heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds to most of Vermont starting early Thursday afternoon. GMP is urging safety for customers as some outages are possible and travel could be difficult during this regional storm.
GMP’s field forces are prepared to respond along with external help to supplement GMP crews if needed.
“We track multiple forecasts days in advance so that we are in the right place to respond as quickly and safely possible for customers. This storm could bring a lot of water in a short period of time that could impact road conditions, along with winds and lightning that could cause trees and branches to fall. For safety, never drive over any road with standing water on it or over or under downed power lines or trees. Customers should always stay far away from any downed lines or trees as they could still be energized. Call us to help,” said Eric Lemery at GMP who works in Field Operations.
To prepare for storms any time of year, GMP recommends customers have some basics on hand including:
- a charged cellphone
- the GMP app on your cell phone
- flashlights with fresh batteries
- bottled water
More storm preparation tips are available on GMP’s website. The GMP app is a great way to report outages, track power restoration times, as well as manage your GMP account from your cellphone. For medical emergencies, always call 911. You can also report outages by calling GMP at 888-835-4672, and through GMP’s online Outage Center.
